Fall Trip 2018 - On the way home

Sunday, October 28, 2018

We decided to come home a couple of days early.  After 2 days of cold rain in Hiawassee, the Sunday was sunny but still cold, windy and predicted cold for the next couple of days, so we packed up and headed towards home.

We stopped for lunch on the Ocoee River and took pictures of the river.

After lunch, we headed out and back onto Hwy. 64, which follows along the Ocoee River.  We enjoyed watching the kayakers all along as we drove.  There's an abundance of kayak rental places all up and down along the river.

Around 4:30 or so we decided to stop for the night.  There was a state park nearby so we headed there.  We stopped at the Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park. No reservations can be made in this park; it is first come first serve. We paid $22 for the night with electric/water hookup.

When we arrived, little did we know it was the end of their 27th Annual Halloween Fairyland Festival.  People were packing up and rigging down all their decorations and heading out; total chaos.  The park ranger told us people come in and start setting up after Labor Day to get their favorite spots and just stay until Halloween.  The park has about 300 sites and has been filled to capacity for the last month or so...until now.

This is a very busy campground with a lot of events in their schedule for the year:  http://www.tannehill.org/index.html

I know you can't see much with these night shots, but here are pictures of some of what was still left up the night we spent here.  I would imagine it would be something to see in full swing.

This owner was an Alabama Fan.

Fall Trip 2018 - Part 2

Wednesday, October 24, 2018 - Brasstown Bald Mountain
Clay and I took an evening ride up to Brasstown Bald Mountain.  Brasstown Bald is the highest point in the state of Georgia (elevation - 4,784 ft.).  Located in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, the mountain is known to the native Cherokee people as Enotah.  The leaves  are turning!

Fall Trip 2018 - Part 1

Sunday, October 21, 2018 - Bald Mountain Camping Resort
We had a not so quiet dinner tonight enjoying fun stories together.  It was really good to spend time and laugh together.

Let's try this again!

Monday, October 22, 2018 - Highlands, Georgia
Clay, Lucy (our schnauzer) and I took a day trip to Highlands, Georgia with our friends Kenny, Denise and their little schnauzer, Olive. We headed down the beautiful winding road and stopped in Clayton, GA to look around, stretch our legs and do some shopping in the sweet little town.

For lunch Denise and I walked over to a sandwich shop, picked up sandwiches to go and we all ate in a little downtown park.

We headed back on the road and stopped to enjoy the waterfalls near Highlands.  This huge waterfall is so awesome, you can hike down and walk right underneath the falls.

We had a really nice day exploring the falls.  Sad to say, Debbie and Bill were not able to join us during the day (we missed you guys) but, they were able to meet us for dinner that night at a local barbeque restaurant.  We had a great time visiting and catching up on the day's events.

Tuesday, October 23, 2018 - Helen, GA
Denise and I drove to Helen, GA to do some shopping while the guys stayed at the campsite and cooked gumbo.  We had a fun day and a fun night with good food and great company.

Fall 2018 Trip - Tires!

Friday, October 19, 2018

Sometimes while traveling, there are downtime days that aren't very much fun and today is one of those days.  We had to buy new tires for the trailer. Ugh!  Clay pays close attention to his tires and spotted a bad tire that needed to be changed.  He decided to go ahead and have them all changed while we were here.  Better safe than sorry, right.  The tires that they put on these campers are nicknamed "China Bombs" ... not very reliable.  Hubby decided to go with a 10 ply tire replacement.  I have no idea about any of this, glad he does.

So, when you change tires on an RV its not the same as boat or utility trailer, especially all 4 tires.  We had to pack up and move it over there and wait while they changed the tires.

Here we are parked at the Tire & Auto Center.  I'm very grateful and thankful we were able to get this done expeditiously.  I would recommend these guys for the work they did and how accommodating they were.

Lucy says "Okay take the picture already and come get me.  These guys are making way too much noise."

Fall 2018 Trip - Hiawassee, GA

Wednesday, October 17, 2018 - we spent our day visiting with my cousins, Bill & Debbie.  We had lunch at Steve's Restaurant, then rode to check out the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds RV park.  This RV park is located on the grounds of the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds on Lake Chatuge.  It's a well maintained park with breathtaking views of the Lake.  We headed back to our campground and enjoyed the remainder of the evening relaxing by the little creek.

Thursday, October 18, 2018 - we headed towards Helen, GA to do some shopping.  We took a different route up there and did some exploring at the Moccasin Creek State Park which is the smallest state park in Georgia.  It's a beautiful park located on Lake Burton with 52 RV spots.

Clay gets so excited to be able to fish!  Read the next photo...
There is a fish hatchery that runs next to the park.

As we headed back on the road towards Helen, we stopped at Hickory Flat Pottery near Clarksville, GA  We had a wonderful time viewing the studio and visiting with the artist, Cody Trautner, who was throwing pottery as he visited with us.

We had lunch in Helen at the Old Bavaria Inn.  They allowed Lucy in the restaurant, so that is where we had lunch.  The food was not so great but we had a good time anyway.
